Jessica Chacon is the founder of Jess Helping Furrbabies, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to rescuing dogs and cats in need and helping them find safe, loving homes.
Her journey into animal rescue began in a simple and unexpected way — by fostering kittens. Jessica wanted to learn more about cats and how to properly care for them, so she began fostering kittens for local rescues. Soon after, she started fostering dogs as well, helping them recover, socialize, and eventually find loving families.
Over time, the calls for help increased. What began as occasional fostering quickly grew into something much larger as more animals needed safety, medical care, and a place to go.
Jessica’s rescue efforts expanded significantly after connecting with a foster in Miami. Through that experience, she witnessed firsthand the overwhelming animal crisis in South Florida, where abandoned and dumped animals are far more common than most people realize. The need was far greater than she ever imagined, and from that point forward her rescue work rapidly intensified.
Jessica dedicates this work to Noah, a dog she had while raising her children as a single mother. Noah was more than just a pet — he helped shape her family and supported her through some of life’s most challenging moments. His love and loyalty continue to inspire the mission behind Jess Helping Furrbabies.

Her work is also dedicated to Dillon, an incredible foster brother who helps newly rescued dogs feel safe and welcomed while they learn to trust again.
Jessica’s furrbabies play an important role in the rescue process as well. Bobbie, a rescued cat, helps test whether incoming dogs are cat-friendly. Her furrbabies Rosa, Dutchess, and Messi help confirm whether new rescues are comfortable around other dogs and ready to integrate into family environments.
Jessica’s grandchildren, who are tiny pet lovers themselves, also play a special role. When appropriate and safe, their interactions with the animals help confirm whether rescues are comfortable and gentle around children — an important step in preparing them for family homes.
Together, Jessica, her animals, and her family form a unique rescue team that helps evaluate, rehabilitate, and prepare animals for successful adoptions.
Through compassion, patience, and an unwavering commitment to animal welfare, Jessica works every day to give vulnerable animals the second chance they deserve.
